Jalan Alor KL: Best Night Food Street in Kuala Lumpur
Jalan Alor is Kuala Lumpur's most famous night food street, a vehicle-free lane in Bukit Bintang that transforms every evening from around 5pm into a raucous, fragrant, and deeply satisfying outdoor dining experience. Dozens of competing restaurants set up tables and yellow plastic chairs along the full length of the street, creating an almost overwhelming concentration of Malaysian-Chinese cooking at impossibly reasonable prices.
The street specialises in Chinese-Malaysian seafood — flame-grilled stingray slathered in sambal belacan, butter prawns, steamed fish with ginger and spring onion, and claypot tofu are among the most ordered dishes across the competing restaurants. The famous grilled chicken wing stalls on Jalan Alor have become a city landmark — marinated wings grilled over charcoal until charred and fragrant, served by the half dozen at tables that fill as soon as the sun sets over the Bukit Bintang towers.
Beyond the main strip, the surrounding Bukit Bintang area offers excellent after-dinner options — the night market on nearby streets sells everything from clothes to electronics, while the pedestrianised Bukit Bintang strip is lined with rooftop bars and clubs that run until the early morning hours. Jalan Alor is best visited between 7pm and 10pm when the atmosphere reaches its most electric and every table is occupied by a mix of locals and visitors who all know exactly what they came for.
