KL Lake Gardens: Parks, Museums & Nature Escapes
Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens (officially Perdana Botanical Garden) is the green heart of the city — a 91.6-hectare urban oasis that offers a remarkable escape from the surrounding concrete and traffic. The garden encompasses KL Bird Park, one of the world's largest free-flight aviaries with 3,000 birds of 200 species; the Butterfly Park, housing 5,000 butterflies; and the Deer Park where axis deer roam freely. The National Monument (Tugu Negara) and National Mosque are both within walking distance, as is the National Museum. Paddle boats glide across the central lake as families picnic on manicured lawns. Early morning is ideal — arrive by 7am to see the park at its most serene, before the heat builds and tour groups arrive. Free entry to the gardens; individual attractions charge modest fees.
