TTDI Kuala Lumpur: Restaurants, Cafes & Local Life in Taman Tun Dr Ismail
Taman Tun Dr Ismail — universally known as TTDI — is one of Kuala Lumpur's most beloved residential neighbourhoods, a leafy enclave just west of Bangsar that has quietly become one of the city's most interesting culinary destinations. Unlike the polished commercial strips of Mont Kiara or Bangsar South, TTDI retains a genuine local character: its main market area buzzes with neighbourhood life, and its restaurant scene ranges from decades-old mamak institutions to forward-thinking modern Malaysian kitchens.
The commercial heart of TTDI centres on Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad and the surrounding streets, where you'll find everything from traditional bak kut teh (pork bone herb soup) shops open from 7am to contemporary brunch cafes, Japanese ramen joints, and specialty coffee roasters. The neighbourhood's Sunday Market at Dataran Taman Tun is one of the best in KL — a twice-weekly (Saturdays and Sundays) farmers' and artisan market selling organic produce, homemade pastries, artisan cheeses, and local crafts under the shade of mature trees.
TTDI is also home to some excellent Malaysian heritage dining — restaurants that have been serving the same loyal customer base for 20 or 30 years, including several celebrated nasi lemak spots, char kway teow masters, and the original branch of several beloved KL chains. For expats living in Damansara or Petaling Jaya, TTDI is the go-to neighbourhood for weekend brunches and weekday dinners. Accessible via Taman Tun Dr Ismail MRT station on the Putrajaya line, opened in 2023.
